On Monday 14 April 2008 the Parma Auxiliary Police welcomed five new recruits. Steve Boardman, Brian McDonald, Eric Neff, Christopher Ritondaro, and James Spirakus were sworn in by Capt. Robert Miller.
This class of recruits bolsters the Auxiliary Police Unit to 42 members.
On Monday 25 June 2007 the Parma Auxiliary Police added two new members to the unit. David Audie and Marc Bazdar were sworn in by Auxiliary Officer in Charge Capt. Robert Miller. These new recruits are eager to get through their training and start working details that help make Parma a better place to live.
These recruits bring the Auxiliary Police Unit up to 39 officers. Commander George J. Balasko has set a goal of sustaining 50 Auxiliary Officers on the unit. The Auxiliary Police Unit is called upon to volunteer for more and more details each year, thus justifying that staffing level.
In 2006, the members of the Parma Auxiliary Police Unit volunteered over 10,800 hours of their time to the department.
The Parma Auxiliary Police unit participates in safety fairs through the year. The Auxiliary Officers pass out safety literature and create Child ID kits. These kits contain fingerprints, a photo and physical description of a child that can help law enforcement agencies locate a missing child.
The Parma Auxiliary Police Unit has purchased new equipment for producing Child ID kits. The new equipment will produce an ID card about the size of a drivers license that will have a photo, fingerprint and physical description of the child printed on it. The back of the card will have safety tips for parents to review with their child.
This new equipment will speed up the process of making a Child ID kit, allowing us to serve more families at the Safety Fairs. Parents can carry the Child ID card with them and quickly give the information to law enforcement should their child go missing.
On 12 February 2007 the Parma Auxiliary Police Unit promoted three officers. Ray Berzins and Richard Robinkoff were promoted to Auxiliary Lieutenant. John Clark was promoted to Auxiliary Sergeant. These staff officers will be given new assignments that help run the Auxiliary Police Unit.
